American Pet Association

The American Pet Association is an association of pet owners for pet owners. We are here for the people that wake up every morning, brush their teeth and walk the dog or have coffee with the cat on their lap. People who end their long days and as they near their home, get a smile on their face thinking about their furry friend waiting for them. We are here to help you choose the right pet, know where to adopt or in some cases purchase them, get ready to bring them home, train them, keep them safe, make a good environment for both of you and have daily life spent enjoying each others lifelong friendship. Plus we can help make your pet owing life a little easier and less expensive.

But we're different...

Few organizations today are able to maintain the ethics and honesty of the past, with the technology and opportunities of the future.

At the APA we resist the trends of today, like selling our members' information, questionable cross promotions, corporate sponsorships and filling our web sites with advertisements.

What we are left with is an organization unlike any other. One that serves the companion animal and humane organizations first, and pet community and related businesses a very close second.

While we might be an independent and stand alone organization, we are happy to stand side by side with some of our nation's greatest local humane agencies and pet businesses, doing what is right by the companion animals that put their complete faith in our love and humanity. More About us

Pets, Storms and Hot Weather

Recent events have driven home some facts that we should all remember.  When Hurricane Irma struck in September two of our employees, Marcie Sapp, and Jennifer Hughes lost their homes. Marcie lost hers to a tornado whipped up by the hurricane and Jen lost hers to flooding.  Like so many people the first thing they both thought was, "Am I prepared for this?"

Marcie told us, "Really the hardest part of all of this was my dogs.  There are challenges you just don't think of.  With no home, my dogs also lost their yard.  I had to take them with me everywhere, and in South Florida, that can be a challenge.  Also there is the challenge of finding shelter and temporary housing that accepts pets.

Marcie Sapp's Hot Weather Tip:

If you live in a hot climate and your car has OnStar you can try this tip.  The remote start will start your car, lock the doors, and run the air conditioner up to three times for 10 minutes each. Use this only if the car is in an open area where exhaust fumes will be taken away by the wind.
1) Crack the windows, park in the shade or use window shades
2) Have a large cup or bowl of water full and accessible
3) Set the timer on your phone for 10 minutes BEFORE you use OnStar
4) Check to be sure the car starts, it will say "Success" or "Failed".
After the three 10 minute periods you will have to physically start your car with your key in order to begin the remote cycle again.

Since this involves multiple technologies and factors, any of which can change, use this method at your own discretion, and always lean to the side of safety.

APA Approval growing daily

A great addition to the APA, and the pet community in whole, was our Business and Product Approval Departments.

You asked, we answered. What products can I trust? What businesses are going to treat my pet properly? What businesses are reputable?

  • Business Approval is designed to allow pet owners to know, nation wide, not only which pet businesses they can trust their pets with, but which businesses use ethical, safe and fair business practices.
  • Product Approval allows pet owners to know at a glance which product is not only safe and effective for their pets, but that they will not be wasting their hard earned money on a product that is ineffective.
